The lone gray and white seagull sat three feet from me, watching, waiting for a single crumb to drop from my a.m. muffin. He wasn’t getting a morsel.
Selfishly, I was the one who had walked across the boulevard to the beach café to purchase it. I was the one who had worked up a small appetite on the bike for an hour, before plopping my sweaty self on my pre-situated beach chair. Baltimore Women’s Film Festival 2009 Call for Entries

The Baltimore Women’s Film Festival is now accepting entries for its 2009 events. The festival is dedicated and focused on seeking out and promoting cinema created by and for women. This nonprofit festival is held during October – breast cancer awareness month. The festival is open to films directed, written, shot, animated, produced or edited by a woman. The festival also screens movies focusing on themes that are highly relevant to women and films with outstanding performances by an actress or actresses. Festival competitive categories include Documentary, Feature Film, Short Comedy, Short Drama, Music Videos, Experimental Films and Animated Films. The festival also has a local filmmaker’s showcase highlighting films by Baltimore and Washington, D.C., filmmakers, and an International Women’s Filmmaker Showcase highlighting films from outside the U.S. There will also be a showcase called “Green Films” on Environmentally Related Topics. Find out how to get your degree in no time! The College of Notre Dame of Maryland is hosting an information session on the Accelerated College and Weekend College programs. Through the Accelerated College program, students can complete a bachelor’s degree in nursing (RN to BSN) or business, part time, in as little as two-and-a-half years, or an elementary education program can be completed in approximately three years. Weekend College, a part-time bachelor’s program for working adults, allows students to complete undergraduate degrees in career-oriented majors on the weekend, but not every weekend. Weekend College majors include corporate communication, human services, radiological sciences, business, computer science, elementary education and religious studies. Read more »

Golden Legacy: Original Art from 65 Years of Golden Books

Little Golden Books are a wonderful part of American childhoods both past and present. An exhibition, “Golden Legacy: Original Art from 65 Years of Golden Books,” will be on display at the Enoch Pratt Free Library beginning Monday, March 2, 2009. The opening reception on Saturday, March 7 will feature visits from the children of the publisher of Little Golden Books. Leonard Marcus, co-curator of the Golden Legacy exhibit and author of “Golden Legacy: How Golden Books Won Children’s Hearts, Changed Publishing Forever, and Became an American Icon Along the Way,” will speak on Saturday, April 18. The exhibit and all special events are free and open to the public.
