Rhapsody in Blue
| May 22, 2008 | to | May 24, 2008 |
Hear Rhapsody in Blue the way George Gershwin wrote it in these special performances by pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under Marin Alsop. The BSO will perform Gershwin’s magnificent work in the original orchestration, written for the Paul Whiteman Band, the most popular jazz group of the 1920s. The work received its premiere in New York in 1924, with Gershwin playing the piano. The version for piano and symphony, orchestrated by Ferde Grofé in 1942, has become one of the most popular American concert works. Tickets are $30 to $50.
