Bring out your metal porch chairs, tease your hair, turn your tires into planters, eat steamed crabs and get ready to celebrate all things “Bawl-mer” at the ultimate Baltimore event - the 2009 Honfest!
Honfest started as a modest pageant that was a tribute to all of those industrious women who use the word “hon” in conversation. These women happened to favor beehive hair-dos, ’60s-style clothing with lots of leopard print, pedal pushers, poodle skirts and stripes, and they thought nothing of combining spandex with bright blue eye shadow.
Today, Honfest is a national celebration, spanning four city blocks in Hampden, a neighborhood known for quirky shops and eclectic restaurants. Honfest gives those merchants a chance to showcase their wares on the sidewalks of Hampden while giving visitors a chance to show off their own “hon” styles.
This year’s theme is “What is a hon?” and artists who work in all mediums are encouraged to submit entries for an outdoor art exhibit. For more information, visit honfest.net, hon!
