“Spirited Women” Shine
September 12, 2008
Susan S. Schapiro, educational consultant and Spirited Woman of 2008 winner, with Monyka Berrocosa, founder of MyCity4Her.com and The Women’s Wine and Dine.
Three Baltimore-area philanthropists were chosen to receive inaugural Spirited Woman awards presented in August. The Spirited Woman awards were created by MyCity4Her.com™ CEO Monyka Berrocosa as a means to raise awareness and provide continued support to the Central Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The awards were modeled after an American Red Cross “Women of Spirit” award established by Morton’s The Steakhouse. That award sought to honor a woman in the local community who had demonstrated an exceptional commitment to volunteerism and service. Berrocosa received the “Women of Spirit” award in 2007.
“My motto is everyone has the power to help someone,” Berrocosa says. “The American Red Cross helps so many, I felt compelled to create an event that reminded people of how much it also needs our support to be able to continue doing so.”
Spirited Woman award winners in 2008 were:
